Frequently Asked Questions

What class should I do after I have finished the Beginners Course?2020-12-17T11:35:03+08:00

At the end of the 6 week Beginners Course some students are ready to progress to the level 1 classes. Some students will benefit from repeating the course, consolidating what they have learnt. If you are unsure you can ask the teacher, most students can happily make their own decision.

What if I miss a class?2017-02-08T23:34:20+08:00

For the beginners course you have 8 classes per week to choose from so you have room to manage your visits and therefor there is no make up classes possible. If you feel you need to discuss your circumstances then please email Andrea. Class pass classes can be made up within 2 weeks of the missed date.

When should I arrive for my yoga class?2016-11-23T15:38:10+08:00

7-10 minutes before your class starts will be fine.

How often should I practise Yoga?2016-11-23T15:36:42+08:00

A minimum of twice a week is recommended however you can benefit from even one yoga class per week more then from none. By committing to a regular routine you will very soon see results – physically and mentally.

Can I eat before Yoga?2016-11-23T15:35:23+08:00

It is best to do Yoga on an empty stomach so allow 3-4 hours after a full meal and 1-2 hours after a snack.

Is there anything I need to bring with me?2016-11-23T15:33:56+08:00

All you need is a big smile on your face! We have a mix of very good quality yoga mats available. We have all the equipment that you will need. If you are keen to bring your own mat, by all means, bring it along.

What should I wear to class?2020-12-17T11:35:04+08:00

Come in comfortable clothing which don’t restrict your movement, consider you will be bending and stretching a lot, too loose clothing may fall into your face or expose the body in unwanted ways and the teacher will have difficulties to check on your alignment. We practise barefoot so take your shoes off before you enter the room.

I am not flexible at all! Will that be ok?2016-11-23T15:20:13+08:00

Everybody can do Yoga. The Beginners Course is designed for people who have no previous experience regardless of their flexibility, age and fitness level. You will improve your level of flexibility, strength and confidence in your body. Yoga master BKS Iyengar used to say: “If you can breath you can do Yoga”

I have never done Yoga before! Can I come to any class?2016-11-23T15:19:10+08:00

We recommend you to choose to join the Beginners Course program.

Testimonials

“Andrea is an excellent teacher in the way she integrates physically challenging positions with commitment, support and warmth. Working as a Chiropractor can be quite demanding on my body and yoga has allowed me to gain flexibility, strengthen my muscles and learn breathing and relaxation techniques.  As I have seen the benefits of yoga and Andrea’s teachings first hand, I now recommend a number of my patients to her classes”

– Dr Kevin Carlson, Gentle Chiropractic

Yoga Etiquette

  • Practice on an empty stomach. No main meal 3-4h prior or snack 1-2 hr prior
  • Arrive on time for class! About 10 minutes before is good.
  • Phones or anything that dings, rings or buzzes –  should be turned off.
  • Practise barefoot for better traction
  • Inform the teacher of any injuries or conditions, your practice might need to be modified.
  • Inform the teacher if you need to leave early to time a relaxation before you leave. Relaxation is important for your nervous system to calm.
  • Practise with an empty bladder and ideally empty bowels.
  • Make sure that your body, clothes & mat are clean and odour free.
  • Avoid wearing perfume, creams or oils, these artificial odours will intensify as your body warms up. This includes all “natural” or “organic” scents as well.
  • Avoid wearing jewellery and watches.
  • Please Respect the school as a place of silence & sanctuary. Keep quiet before class .Others might like to prepare themselves in reflection or meditation.
  • Place your mat in line square to the shape of the room. That’s not for a neater look, but it helps you and others to stay balanced during practice,
  • Please do not step on other people’s mats.
  • Always listen to your body.
  • Clean studio mats after by using spray bottles and towels provided.
  • Put all props you’ve taken off the shelves back neatly in their proper place after class.
